Engine Repairs in Market Drayton

Bigger mechanical jobs are the sort of work many garages pass on. We take them on, starting with a proper diagnosis so you know what you're dealing with before spending money.

01

Diagnose before dismantling

Compression, pressures, live data, oil condition and physical checks establish what has failed before a major repair is proposed.

02

Explain the viable routes

Repair, rebuild or replacement can each be right in different circumstances. We set out the practical options and the likely value of each.

03

Carry out the right work

From cylinder-head and valve-train work to internal repairs and engine removal, the scope is agreed before the job moves forward.

Diagnosis comes first

Engine problems can sound alarming and still turn out to be straightforward — and occasionally the opposite is true. Before any major work we investigate properly: checking compression, pressures, live data, oil condition, leaks and the physical condition of the engine. Only then can we tell you what's wrong and what it will take to put right.

We'll also be straight with you if a repair doesn't make financial sense for the car. That's your decision to make, and you need honest information to make it.

Work we carry out

  • Oil and coolant leaks, gaskets and seals
  • Cylinder head removal, refitting and head gasket work
  • Misfires, compression loss and running faults
  • Overheating and cooling system faults
  • Turbo and induction faults
  • Camshaft, valve train and timing-related repairs
  • Internal repairs and engine rebuilds where appropriate
  • Engine removal and refitting where the job requires it

Symptoms worth getting looked at

  • Knocking, tapping or rattling from the engine
  • Blue or white smoke from the exhaust
  • Losing coolant or oil with no obvious leak
  • Overheating, or the temperature gauge moving around
  • Oil warning light or low oil pressure
  • Rough running, misfire or a noticeable loss of power

If the oil light comes on or the engine is overheating, it's best to stop driving and get in touch. Continuing can turn a repair into a replacement engine.

Rebuild or replace?

Sometimes repairing the existing engine is the right answer, sometimes a replacement or reconditioned unit works out better. We look at the condition of the engine, the availability of parts and the value of the car, then explain the options rather than making the decision for you.
